Josephus's testimony about Jesus (the Testimonium Flavianum)
In Book XVIII of the Jewish Antiquities Josephus briefly describes Jesus. He presents him as a wise man who performed astonishing deeds, taught the truth, and drew to himself both Jews and Greeks. He calls him the Christ.
At the urging of the leading Jews, Pilate condemned Jesus to crucifixion. But, according to the text, his disciples continued to love him, and on the third day he appeared to them alive again, as the prophets had foretold. The text notes that there still exist those calling themselves Christians after his name.
