Privacy policy

Updated: 2026-10-07

This page explains what data the History of Christianity site collects, why and for how long it keeps it, who can see it and how to delete it. You can read the site without an account – then we keep nothing about you except the server’s technical logs.

Who is responsible

The site is run by Oleg Dermenji as a private person. For any question about your data, write to privacy@churchheritage.org.

What data we keep

  • Server logs: IP address, time, the page requested and browser details. They are used to find errors and fend off attacks, and are kept for no longer than 14 days.
  • Account: first and last name, email address, password (only as an irreversible hash – we never know the password itself), chosen language. If you sign in with Google – your Google account identifier and its email address.
  • Chains: names, descriptions, the entries you chose and presentation settings. Only you can see them. If you share a presentation by link, its name, description and entries (without notes) are visible to anyone with the link until you turn it off. They are deleted together with your account.
  • Notes: your notes on cards and on the entries of your chains. Only you can see them (in the presenter view); they are deleted together with your account.
  • Feedback: name, email address, the message, the site language and the page you came to the form from. The message is kept on the site and emailed to the site’s author.

Why

Only to run the site: signing in, emails to confirm your address or reset your password, replies to your messages. We show no ads, do not sell or share data, use no analytics and do not track visitors.

Cookies and browser storage

The site sets only necessary cookies: the session (to keep you signed in; it expires after 2 hours without activity), protection of forms against forgery (XSRF-TOKEN) and, if you ticked “Keep me signed in”, a cookie for a long sign-in. Your browser’s storage keeps the theme, the compact view and where you were in each section – they never leave your device. There are no advertising or analytics cookies. If you opened a chain's presentation, the browser keeps it for a show without the internet (the page, data and fonts); it is removed when you sign out.

Other services

  • Google – only if you choose “Sign in with Google”. Google then tells the site your name and email address and confirms the address. policies.google.com/privacy
  • Cloudflare Turnstile – the “I am human” box on the feedback form. To tell a person from a program, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
  • The hosting provider whose server runs the site, and the mail server that sends the emails. The site serves its own fonts – your browser does not fetch them from other services.

How long

Your account – until you delete it. A sign-up whose address was never confirmed is deleted after 30 days. Feedback messages – as long as they are needed to reply and improve the site; we delete them earlier if you ask. Server logs – no longer than 14 days. Database backups – 30 days.

Your rights

You can change your name, email, password, language and ways to sign in in the settings. You can also delete your account there: it is deleted at once and completely. To get a copy of your data, or to correct or delete feedback messages, write to privacy@churchheritage.org – we reply within 30 days.

Changes

If the policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date at the top.
